They're getting rid of the loan forgiveness program (again)

Keeping up with all the news is exhausting and terrible, especially when it basically says: "you know your whole life plan is a sham, right?"

So i'm currently working at a government agency in a field that is so boring people actually think I'm a secret agent covering up with the most mundane and uninteresting job description possible, but actually I'm not. I'm a bi-lingual world traveler that works in HR. That's who I am, and actually for the first time in my life I actually LIKE my job. But I super like my job because in 7.5 years I will be eligible (drummmmmmmrollllll pleeeease) Public Service Student Loan Forgivenessssssssssss!

Now this program exists because the government knows it fucked up pretty badly when the 2008 crisis hit, state budgets took a nose dive on education spending and the cost of universities (for various reasons we're still trying to understand) ballooned. So the federal government said, "ok, we'll loan you babies all hella money, and then YOU take a job that doesn't pay very well, chill out for about 10 years at lower pay and then we'll make it marginally worth it by paying off your student debt.

Ever since 2007 when the applicants of this program started to become eligible for public service loan forgiveness (PSLF) the Department of Education has been pretty much fucking up all over the place. (well, actually it was their contractors, who are a bunch of federal program dollar leeches and scammers, have been doing the worst of the fucking up, but guess who still has contracts with them, yep, Dept of Ed,) so I'm still blaming them because NO ONE HAS BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE from this.

Many people have been reporting on all the scamming of former students who took low paying jobs in public service in the hopes that serving their community and government would have at least one up side, Hasan Manaj has done a whole episode on this.

And now, in the most recent development, the administration's budget has come out to cut the PSLF program.

So fuck you current students of America. (this proposal doesn't affect people already in the system per se) How dare you try to pay down your debt while servicing the public interest. The Republicans would like us all to be wage slaves, graduating into debt, obligating employment, keeping people afraid that if they lose their jobs, they will lose their credit rating, health care and ability to care for their families. I have more to say on this topic, but this is for another time.

Anyway, I say fuck you to the Republican party. You are the worst.
